Details on the devices’ actual specs are still uncertain, but it has been reported that the new device will be sporting a trackpad instead of a trackball –this means that your BlackBerry no longer has to be a magnet for pocket lint. Also, the processor will now be 624 MHz (unlike the original 512 MHz on the original 8900). The Bold 9700 is the first BlackBerry with a 624 MHz processor.
Missing from the 8910 however, is 3G. Despite being a modern device, this phone will be WiFi reliant. No word has been given as to why 3G has been removed as an option in the device, but many suspect that this would allow RIM to market the device at a much lower price. With BlackBerry devices rarely made for the mid to low range price range, the 8900 series is a great way for the series to keep tapping into this market.
The BlackBerry Curve
The Curve series of BlackBerry phones have been around for a while. The first device in the set came out around 2007 –the Curve 8300; lacking both 3G and WiFi, the device was met with very little success. It was not until later improvements on the phone (inclusion of WiFi and even GPS) did the device gain better acceptance. The true sequels to the 8300 came out much later in 2009; the 8900 and 8530/8520 devices delivered higher specs and even better features –but still lacked 3G.
Images of the 8910
With both the BlackBerry Curve 8910and the BlackBerry Atlas still waiting to get formally unveiled, initial images of the two devices are pretty confusing as it is reported that the two phones will look similar –though some even say that they are the same device. The first blurry images of the 8910 show that ever familiar keyboard and screen layout. It will not be using the more impressive looking keyboard found on the Bold 9700.
About RIM
The BlackBerry series of mobile phones is well known by companies across the world as a very reliable line of mobile device suited for business use. The major innovation in the series was the introduction of email technology on the phone –which spawned a unique form of email addiction that was coined as Crackberry (due to the reliance on BlackBerry devices).
This line of mobile phones is the product of Research in Motion, a Canadian based wireless device manufacturer. They are currently run by CEOs Mike Lazaridis and Jim Balsillie. Aside from the upcoming Curve, BlackBerry has been quiet for the most part of early 2010, though many expect to see some new improvements on the BlackBerry OS to compete with the soon to launch Windows Mobile 7.
